IC INFORMATION

Character Name: Inej Ghafa
Canon: Grishaverse, Rule of Wolves
Canon Point: The coronation of Ravka's new Queen
Background: Six of Crows Wiki | Crooked Kingdom Wiki | Character Wiki

Suitability: Inej will be curious in all manners about the world she's found herself in and do a lot of investigation initially. In particular, she would be intrigued by the native belief systems. She has a strong sense of belief and faith in the Ravkan Saints of her homeworld, and this is something that will drive her actions, despite being so far from home.

Loyal to the max, once her side is chosen, she will not waver in where she stands. She will always choose the thing that is best for people at large– any hints of indentures and slaves or rights being stolen from the people will immediately focus her attention. These are things she will not stand for. She will always fight for freedom, and she will not back down. These are principles she will die for.

Additionally, she is both a keeper and collector of secrets and very good at what she does. I'd really love to explore any opportunities for surveillance that may arise. She could potentially barter in information, if she learns anything of interest, which would also be really fun to play around with.

+UPDATED (Apr '24)+
Upon returning to Abraxas Inej will recall her first time here, as well as having some additional time from back home under her feet. This time has been spent pursuing her hunt for slavers to bring to justice so she can save others from a fate anything like her own.

Her endavours in game would remain largely the same as before: She wants to make a home for herself here, for as long as she is here. She's always going to be interested in the native Abraxan religions and similar, and her desire for justice and freedom is further instilled in her now more than ever.

If possible, I'd like to pursue her reattaining her job at Portham Hall, with the understanding that it may take additional tasks or quests to gain that foot back in the door again.

Powers: She is a skilled acrobat, leaving her with excellent climbing skills, agility, and body coordination. What she lacks in brute strength, she more than makes up for in stealth and knowing her way around a blade (knives, in particular).

+UPDATED (Apr '24)+
Since her return home, she's been the captain of a ship and has been running her own crew. She knows a lot more about sailing, the maintenance of ships, and life on the sea.

PERSONALITY QUESTIONS

Describe an important event in your character's life and how it impacted them.
{CW: slavery, coercion, prostitution, sexual assault, abuse}

At the age of 14, Inej was captured by slavers who sold her to Tante Heleen, owner of one of Ketterdam's pleasure houses, The Menagerie. Against her will, she was forced into an indenture and coerced into prostitution. Girls who stepped out of line were punished by Heleen or her enforcers, beaten brutally, and locked in chains if they tried to escape.

Inej spent the better part of a year suffering unspeakable things sought by men with more money than propriety. Until, one day, she overhears a conversation between Tante Heleen and Kaz Brekker, one of the gang The Dreg's up-and-comers who had earned himself the nickname 'Dirtyhands'. She approaches him, insisting she could help get the information he was seeking about The Menagerie's clientele. He said nothing to her that night, but came back the next day and bought out her indenture, giving Inej the choice to join The Dregs. She took the offer and became his Wraith, stealing secrets on the streets of Ketterdam for the next two years.

Her experiences at The Menagerie still haunt her to this day, and she suffers from PTSD due to the trauma she suffered between the clients and the owner alike. Though her early time with Kaz and The Dregs was more out of obligation because he saved her, in the end, she stayed as long as she did for her loyalty to the boy who freed her from her cage.

She learned to embrace the darker parts of herself working under Kaz, but never lost the golden parts running beneath it. Despite every reason the world has given her to hate it, to become angry and mistrustful of people, Inej perseveres. She clings tightly to her faith, always seeking out the silver linings and positives in every situation.

She has a martyr's heart and refuses to stand by and allow people who harm others to go unchecked; this, combined with her own personal experiences (and Kaz's gift of grandeur, her ship, The Wraith), is what has led her deciding to devote her time to the personal takedown of slavers. She knows she will never get all of them, but for every one slaver she turns in, she's saving hundreds, if not more, from being sold like she was.

+UPDATED (Apr '24)+
Recently, Inej has spent time following that mission taking down people with the intent to capture and sell the young for profit; she has spent time at sea and hunted slavers, even going so far as to cover two individuals in tar and crow feathers before dumping them at the entrance to the Stadhall (policeforce local to Ketterdam) with a note declaring that one of the men of the Merchant Council was dealing in slaves.

Does your character have a moral code, or other set of standards they try to live by?
Yes, Inej definitely lives by her own personal code that is in part tied into her faith and belief in the Ravkan Saints, with her own sense of values tangled into it as well. She always strives to be better than the person life has made her into, and will always protect those who cannot protect themselves.

What quality or qualities do they admire most?
Loyalty and honesty are very high on her priority list. She needs those things from the people she surrounds herself with to feel any sort of comfort at all. Compassion is near and dear to her heart as well, as she has never lost her own, despite the atrocities she has both suffered and committed herself.

+UPDATED (Apr '24)+
Her people are widely misunderstood by others, sought out only for the entertainment their circus performances bring, or otherwise mocked for their steadfast beliefs; the Suli are also treated as lower class citizens and mistreated by various governmental bodies. Because of this experience, she holds high regard from people with high levels of empathy and take the time to truly understand people, their stories, and where they're coming from.

Do they have a part of themselves they dislike?
Feeling uncomfortable in her own skin is something she battles every day. There is an intensity in both craving physical comfort, and being averse to any sort of tactility she does not initiate herself. It's something she wishes to work on, but it takes time, patience, and trust, which is not the easiest thing to gain from her at this stage.

+UPDATED (Apr '24)+
Though she is in a better space to deal with them, she still fights these battles regularly. She can be cagey, especially around men she doesn't know and doubly so if they seem too flirtatious toward her in particular.

What is their sign, and why? The Hierophant; Inej's beliefs are one of the most important things to her. Unwavering in both her faith and her morals, though she is certainly not perfect. She prays to her Saints that they forgive her for the terrible things she has done against their teachings, and hopes to one day be accepted by them in death.
